'Tis the Season...  Look here for seasonal pictures in chronological order, with the most recent at the top.  Pictures are added as significant seasonal changes occur.  Check back regularly as the lake season progresses.  Ice was pretty much gone April 8th last year, except for in the cold bays; April 10th marks the first raft ride.  It was April 17th, in 2008.  Check back often to see what it looks like in Star Lake by the season.

6/1/09 Narcissus' heads appear to be smiling at the promise of spring.

5/31/09 May out like a lion, winter takes a final gasp as a late snow storm passes through.

5/22/09 Spring flowers reappear to  add color to a previously monochromatic landscape.

The sweet aroma of lilacs fills the yard, marking the new season.

5/21/09 Maple Mt. loses its dreary tans and browns in favor of spring green.

Lilacs reach toward the sky in late May signaling triumph over another winter.

The circle of life--a couple of Canadian geese protect their newly-arrived goslings.

Apple blossoms are another indicator that winter is over for another year.

5/20/09 Blossoming trees and sunshine marks this favorite season.

5/19/09 The beautiful color and sweet smell of Grape Hyacinths mark the beginning of spring.

5/9/09 A surprise storm dropped dime-sized hail stones, causing 8" splashes on the water!

The "greening up" of the area continues at the Houghton College campus.

4/10/09, sun out, temp in the 50's looking north over 2nd Lake--Spring is finally here!  

Ice was out 4/8/09.  Brenda won the bet; but ironically, her South Bay is still socked in with ice!

4/10/09  This shot, looking east down Post Office Bay, should entice the snowbirds back north.

4/10/09 looking west toward Swiss Point on our first raft ride.  Ice is gone as is most of the snow!

April 4th-earliest thaw in a long time.  Late snow provides contrast to yesterday!

April 4th: ice has retreated to the middle, just visible near the horizon.  It's snowing again!!

April 3rd: Sunshine, light breeze and 50 degrees-no snow on the lawn!

April 2 saw ice letting go of the shoreline and black ice forming in the middle.

Ice skating anyone?  A March 12th quick chill froze the lake, making skating on the lake a possibility.

Ice fishermen enjoy a sunny day in mid-March.
